Why the company exists

Software written for mission-driven organizations has a reputation, and it is deserved. Interfaces that look a decade old. Payment flows that lose people at checkout. Data locked inside a vendor who charges to export it. Support that means a ticket queue and a week of waiting.

None of that is inevitable. It happens because this sector has been treated as a low-expectation market, sold to rather than built for. The teams involved are usually small, usually stretched, and rarely in a position to push back on a vendor.

Altura Systems was founded on a straightforward conviction: an organization feeding people, teaching people, or caring for people deserves software engineered to the same standard as the tools used by companies with far larger budgets and far smaller stakes.

How we are set up

We are deliberately small. That is a constraint, and we would rather state it than dress it up: we take on fewer engagements than a larger firm, and we say no when something is outside what we can do well.

The advantage is that the person who scopes your work is the person who writes it and the person who is reachable when it breaks. Nothing is handed to an offshore team after the contract is signed, and there is no account manager between you and whoever understands the system.

What we will not do

We do not hold client data hostage. Source code, infrastructure, and data belong to the client, and everything is documented well enough that another engineer could take it over. If you want to leave, we help you leave.

We do not sell software that we would not run ourselves, and we do not recommend building something when an existing tool would serve you better, even when building it would be the more profitable advice.

David founded Altura Systems after years of building and operating technology inside a mission-driven organization rather than selling to one from the outside. That work covered server infrastructure, payment and giving systems, content production pipelines, and applied AI, all under the constraints this sector actually operates within: small teams, tight budgets, and no tolerance for downtime on a Sunday morning.

He continues to lead engineering directly. Altura's technical decisions are made by someone who has had to live with the consequences of those decisions at three in the morning.
